New fluoroscopic imaging technique for investigation of 6DOF knee kinematics during treadmill gait

چکیده
INTRODUCTION This report presents a new imaging technique for non-invasive study of six degrees of freedom (DOF) knee kinematics during treadmill gait. MATERIALS AND METHODS A treadmill was integrated into a dual fluoroscopic imaging system (DFIS) to formulate a gait analysis system. To demonstrate the application of the system, a healthy subject walked on the treadmill at four different speeds (1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 MPH) while the DFIS captured the knee motion during three strides under each speed. Characters of knee joint motion were analyzed in 6DOF during the treadmill walking. RESULTS The speed of the knee motion was lower than that of the treadmill. Flexion amplitudes increased with increasing walking speed. Motion patterns in other DOF were not affected by increase in walking speed. The motion character was repeatable under each treadmill speed. CONCLUSION The presented technique can be used to accurately measure the 6DOF knee kinematics at normal walking speeds.

Six degree-of-freedom knee joint kinematics in obese individuals with knee pain during gait
Knee joint pain is a common symptom in obese individuals and walking is often prescribed as part of management programs. Past studies in obese individuals have focused on standing alignment and kinematics in the sagittal and coronal planes. Investigation of 6 degree-of-freedom (6DOF) knee joint kinematics during standing and gait is important to thoroughly understand knee function in obese indi...
متن کاملPrediction of in-vivo Knee Joint Kinematics using a Statistical Shape Modeling
Introduction: Using computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) images to construct 3D knee models has been widely used in biomedical engineering research. Statistical shape modeling (SSM) method is an alternative way to provide a fast, cost-efficient, and subject-specific knee modeling technique. Further, 3D models can be used with a Dual-Fluoroscopic Imaging System (DFIS) to study joi...
متن کاملEffect of different walking speed on the gait kinematics of individuals with knee varus
The purpose of current study was to investigate the spatio-temporal gait parameters and knee varus angle during walking at different speeds in young with knee varus. 18 subjects with varus deformity classified at grade 3 of bowleg and 17 healthy subjects, volunteered to participate in this study. The following variables include stance, swing, double support and cycle time, cadence, stride le...
متن کاملEffects of repeated treadmill testing and electrical stimulation on post-stroke gait kinematics.
Improvements in task performance due to repeated testing have previously been documented in healthy and patient populations. The existence of a similar change in performance due to repeated testing has not been previously investigated at the level of gait kinematics in the post-stroke population. The presence of such changes may define the number of testing sessions necessary for measuring a st...
متن کاملThe aging human neuromuscular system expresses less certainty for selecting joint kinematics during gait.
This investigation quantitatively characterized the certainty of the aging neuromuscular system in selecting a joint range of motion during gait based on the statistical concept of entropy. Elderly and young control groups walked on a treadmill at a self-selected pace. Joint angles were calculated for the ankle, knee and hip. We hypothesized that the aging group would exhibit less certainty in ...
